In our latest blog, we chat with our Operations Lead - Customer Service, Toni Daniels.
Hi, Toni. Can you tell us about your role at One Nexus?
My official job title is Operations Lead - Customer Service, ensuring that the operational section of Automotive runs smoothly. No two days are the same in this role and that’s what I enjoy about it. It keeps me on my toes and as the motto goes “every day is a learning day”. The transition into this role had its challenges. Never in my career, had I managed a team of people, this took some time to navigate. I would say is still something I work on every day. But to be given this opportunity is one I am grateful for each day, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve this without the help and guidance from my peers and for the faith One Nexus had in me.
What is your experience in the automotive industry so far?
In all honesty, before I started with One Nexus almost 10 years ago, nothing. I started at the age of 18 without even a driver’s licence.
Thankfully the days of an hour’s bus journey to the office each morning is a distant memory, but this company has taught me a lot about the automotive industry and how critical transportation is.
These past 10 years has taught me A LOT, and I take pride in sharing this knowledge with the team, helping them to grow and develop their own skillset.
How has your journey with One Nexus been so far?
It’s been great honestly. I joined when I was 18 years old as a Customer Service Advisor on the Ford Rental team and then over the next 6-7 years, I went on to work within the Kia Rental and Nexus Mobility teams. Throughout the years I learnt a lot about customer service and the different manufacturers and built-up strong relationships with suppliers, dealers and the customer care teams.
I have always been a chatty person with a drive to problem solve, so starting a career where I got to speak to people for hours each day and attempt to provide a solution was perfect for me.
What would you say you enjoy most about your job?
The people, the days where you log off and it feels like you’ve made a difference to someone’s day, hopefully in a positive way.
I have a great support network around me at One Nexus, people who encourage me every day, and now I get to do the same for others.
I like that each day comes with its own challenges, ones I can learn and grow from.
What was it about One Nexus that made you want to get involved?
I was introduced to the business back in 2016 by my cousin who has since moved onto a different career path, but it honestly was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I previously had only worked in retail, so this was a big change for me but now I’m a part of a company who I feel actually cares about me and somewhere I’m proud to say I work.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work I spend a lot of time with family and friends, going out for meals, travelling and the occasional bottomless brunch involving just a few cocktails.
I’m currently saving for my first home with my partner, meaning my partying days at festivals and holidays to the party island of Ibiza are sadly over but it’s all worth it.
Finally, what is one thing you would like readers to know about yourself or One Nexus that they might not know already?
One Nexus is a family, not in your ordinary terms but a whole bunch of people who you know has your best intentions at heart.
It’s a workplace like no other I’ve ever heard about or experienced, one that brings out the best in people.
