In our latest blog, we chat with our Finance Director , Andreea Popa.
Hi Andreea, Can you tell us about your role at One Nexus?
Absolutely. I’m the Finance Director at One Nexus, responsible for leading the finance function and shaping its strategic direction. I joined in 2017 as a Management Accountant and progressed through several roles before stepping into my current position in 2022. I’m grateful to our late CEO, Peter Blease, whose belief in my potential helped me develop as a leader. Over time, I’ve built a strong finance team whose support and commitment have been central to my journey. Today, my work focuses on financial planning, performance reporting, strategic insight, and ensuring we have the right financial foundations for long term stability.
What is your experience in the automotive industry so far?
My experience in the automotive sector has given me a detailed understanding of both its operational and commercial dynamics. I’ve been involved in dealer performance analysis, OEM programme support, and strategic financial planning, including budgeting, forecasting, scenario modelling, and multi entity reporting.
I’ve also spent time improving processes and reviewing how data flows through the business, which helped broaden my understanding beyond the financials. These experiences have equipped me to navigate a fast moving sector that requires strong insight, adaptability, and a clear grasp of how each part of the network operates.
How has your journey with One Nexus been so far?
My journey has been significant both professionally and personally. From day one, I’ve had the chance to grow, take on responsibility, and contribute to key developments within the business.
We’ve also experienced challenging moments, including the loss of two outstanding leaders — Peter Blease in 2021 and John Moran in 2025. Their influence shaped many of us, and their values continue to guide how we work together. These moments strengthened our unity as a team and reinforced the culture we continue to build.
Looking ahead, I feel proud of the progress we’ve made and motivated by the direction we’re moving in.
What would you say you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my role is the balance between strategic thinking and hands on problem solving. Finance is not just about the numbers themselves — it’s about making sense of them. I enjoy turning complex information into clear insight that helps drive decisions. Understanding how different areas of the business operate and supporting them with financial clarity is something I find very fulfilling.
I also value the impact of the work — whether it’s refining processes, building stronger reporting, or contributing to strategic discussions, I appreciate seeing how finance supports the wider business.
And importantly, a major part of what I enjoy is working with my team. I’m very fortunate to be surrounded by people who are dedicated, capable, and eager to improve. Collaborating with them, supporting their development, and seeing them grow into their strengths is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my role. Their commitment and energy make the work enjoyable every day, and knowing we can rely on one another is a big part of what drives me forward.
Overall, it’s the combination of people, purpose, and continuous learning that makes my job truly rewarding.
What was it about One Nexus that made you want to get involved?
Although my role began as a traditional Management Accountant position, it quickly became clear there was room to grow and contribute far beyond that. The pace of the business and its openness to new ideas created opportunities to influence and improve the finance function early on.
The culture — collaborative, supportive, and focused on progress — made me feel I could genuinely make a difference.
That sense of possibility is what kept me committed to building my career here.
Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, travelling, and exploring new places — anything that allows me to disconnect, recharge, and create meaningful memories. I’m someone who appreciates a good balance, so quieter moments are just as important to me.
I especially enjoy reading, whether it’s something that helps me learn, something that inspires me, or simply a book that lets me switch off for a while. I also love walking in nature. Being outdoors, surrounded by fresh air and calm, gives me the space to reset and think clearly. It’s one of the ways I unwind and keep perspective, especially after busy periods at work.
Having this balance outside of work is important to me, and I value experiences that help me stay grounded, energised, and connected to the things that matter most.
Finally, what is one thing you would like readers to know about yourself or One Nexus that they might not know already?
One Nexus is a place where people are encouraged to contribute ideas and be part of shaping how things move forward. That openness has played a big part in my development here.
I’m someone who believes in continuous improvement and in helping people grow with confidence. Supporting others, building strong relationships, and creating an environment where people feel capable and supported are important parts of who I am as a leader.
On a personal note, I also have a British Citizenship ceremony on 9th March — a milestone I’m very proud of, and one that reflects an important chapter in my journey.
I also want to acknowledge the daily support I receive from Alan Glazier and Christina Stewart. Their guidance has meant a great deal to me, both professionally and personally.
I’m proud to be part of One Nexus and look forward to contributing to its future.
